Day eight
“Quick update….it’s been a slow couple of days with no wind and lots of rowing on lumpy seas which has been pretty tiring. The 2 hours on two off is relentless and knackering. Even with ear plugs the noise of the waves smashing the boat is loud and being constantly rolled around is not sleep inducing! Can’t believe we’ e been on the sea for over a week- it has really flown by, but then there is no doing nothing time. We are either rowing, doing ‘stuff’: eating, cleaning, washing, nav, comms, media- or trying to sleep, so the days are like a series of 2 hour sprints.
The weather changed yesterday and we have had 24 hours of stiff East wind. Last night it was too dark to see the sea and we’re going so fast in a vey lumpy sea that it was nearly impossible to row, so we went with the sea and let it carry us along, only rowing to straighten the boat when turned too far sideways by wind or wave. If it continues today it will give some well needed rest.
Nice to be heading West at a decent speed (3-5 knots). 😁”
